Meet the Team

Jane Swan, Project Manager

So what do you actually do?
Jane SwanI have an all round view of what’s going on across the project and co-ordinate The Green Blue Team to keep things running smoothly - keeping an eye on progress and communicating with everyone who needs to stay in the know. It’s a great staff team - everyone knows what they have to do and we simply crack on with it - from organising a conference, exhibiting at a boat show, commissioning a new poster, launching a new website or visiting a sailing club or marina with ideas on how to save energy or recycle more.  I also manage our relationships with funders, making sure we deliver our commitments to them and making the most of the resources we have to achieve as much as we can.

What did you do before you joined The Green Blue?
I spent 15 fantastic years in high performance sport, with the British Paralympic Association and UK Sport – everything from hands-on team logistics to sponsorship and organisational development.

What is the best thing about working for The Green Blue?
The can-do culture of The Green Blue team and the inspirational people who share our energy for sustainable boating.

What/where do you sail?
Hill Head and Calshot – happy days are those spent in a dinghy.

Alex Watkins, Development Officer

Alex WatkinsSo what do you actually do?
I manage The Green Blue's presence at a range of events including the Southampton and London boat shows and the RYA Dinghy Show. I'm also responsible for keeping our website up to date, social networking, resources, communications and marketing materials. I look after a portfolio of partners, using their networks to distribute The Green Blue's information and at the same time help them to make environmental improvements within their business.

What did you do before you joined The Green Blue?
I spent seven and a half years working for a large restaurant chain, training and developing team members at store level. I also opened new stores and organised sporting events for the company.

What is the best thing about working for The Green Blue?
The amount of time you get to spend with people who truly want to know how they can do their bit and help work towards making sailing a sustainable pastime.

What/where do you sail?
I am currently racing on a Salona 44 in Southampton but race whatever I can get my hands on.  My history is mostly with dinghys, particularly RS300's.

Dan Reading, Sustainability Officer

Dan ReadingSo what do you actually do?
I travel all over the place, working with various stakeholders in the marine industry and visiting marinas, sailing clubs, boat builders and even Olympic Venues. My role is to help marine facilities and organisations reduce their environmental impact as well as reducing overheads.

What did you do before you joined The Green Blue?
I worked for local government helping to increase pro environmental behaviour in addition to procuring a large scale long term waste management plan.

What is the best thing about working for The Green Blue?
Meeting people who want to make a difference, passionate about their sport and getting to spend some of my time in marinas and sailing clubs.

What/where do you sail?
I mainly windsurf, but have spent a number of holidays on a lovely Drascombe Lugger in West Wales. I love being under the water too, diving and enjoy under water photography.
