Best Practice

Invasive Species

  • When recovering a boat from the water dispose of any plant and animal materials in a dustbin or skip
  • For boats kept in the water permanently, hull fouling is the main means of transfer. Ask berth holders to get hulls cleaned at least every 12 months and apply adequate antifouling. Consider including this in your terms and conditions
  • Conduct regular checks to see if any boats have excessive hull fouling
  • Educate customers what to look out for and encourage them to report suspicions to you
  • Report any suspicions on invasive species sightings to the Food and Environment Research Agency
