Marine South East Hosts Resource Efficiency Event for Manufacturers and Product Designers in the Marine Industry

Waste reduction, resource efficiency, improved product design and production all lead to increased profitability, and Marine South East is leading a project that can help deliver all of the above for marine companies.

Marine South East is partnering with Olive Consultancy, Business Link's Designing Demand programme and the Manufacturing Advisory Service to deliver SMARTA (Sustainable Marine Transformation and Assessment), a 3-year project aimed at helping marine manufacturing businesses to increase profit levels and reduce their environmental impact. The project is jointly funded by SEEDA and the European Union, so consultancy is free to participating companies and can cover a range of potential actions.

Marine South East's MareNet event will give marine manufacturing companies an overview of SMARTA and what's involved for participating companies. Business Link will give an overview of their DIBS and EcoMind projects.

The project partners will be on hand to offer guidance on their respective areas of expertise and to discuss options for tailored programmes.

Speakers at the event will include:

- Marine South East giving an overview of the SMARTA project and information about how marine companies can become involved;
- Manufacturing Advisory Service, who will discuss their service which includes advising on planning, production and quality control;
- Olive Consultancy, who advise on sustainable development and procurement, waste and energy management, forthcoming legislation and global climate;
- Designing Demand, who will give an overview on the importance of design in all aspects of businesses management.

Registration for the event will begin at 3.30pm with the first presentation starting at 4.00pm. The event will conclude with a networking buffet at 6.00pm.
