Prestigious Hybrid Propulsion Competition to be Launched at ICOMIA’s First HYMAR Conference.

The Mansura TrophyThe fourth biennial competition for the Mansura Trophy for hybrid propulsion will be launched ahead of the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) on Monday 14 November 2012 at the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition Centre.

The 2012 competition will recognize the vast strides that have been made by builders since the  competition started.  The judges will be considering not only the innovative engineering demonstrated by the entries, but also the marketing, distribution and servicing of the production craft resulting from the many prototypes that have been launched in the past ten years. Commercial and pleasure craft up to 122m LOA are eligible.

Previous winners of the Mansura Trophy include: The revolutionary “Green Motion”, built in Durban, South Africa, by African Cats BV in 2010. “Ransome” and “Ruskin” from Lake Coniston Tourist Launches, which was, re-engined by EnviroBoat Developments Ltd and almost entirely driven by solar power  in 2008.  And the Lagoon 420 Hybrid Catamaran which used dynamotors to generate power for the batteries when under sail, in 2006/7

There will again be divisions in the competition for Offshore and Inland waterways craft and awards within each division for excellence in:

  • Technology, involving concepts and innovation.
  • Production, covering development , manufacturing and conversion.
  • Execution, considering passage-making, versatility, sales, distribution and support.

Following the launch the Trustees will issue regular information about the competitors for 2012 that submit their expressions of interest during the year, culminating with the roundup of entries after 30th November, by which time all entries must be afloat and in commission.
